Writing and Editing

Writing is my preferred stock in trade. After starting my career with C&G Monthly in 2010, I now have more than five years of professional experience as a journalist and a critic writing primarily for Dork Shelf and Indie Game Reviewer.

Though I’m proficient in multiple styles, I specialize in long form features analyzing games and game culture, as well as opinion columns tackling a variety of subjects. I’m constantly searching for new angles that deserve to be explored in a public setting and I take pride in my ability to engage with difficult subject matter in a style that is respectful, informative and entertaining.

I am equally comfortable conducting interviews, writing reviews, and blogging. Regardless of the format, I always strive to bring my unique perspective to everything I write and I excel at finding new ways to approach familiar points of conversation.

I’m also a highly skilled editor. After contributing to DorkShelf.com for over a year, I became an Associate Editor in the fall of 2013 before taking over as the Games Editor in May of 2014. I’ve held the position ever since. During that time I’ve worked tirelessly to build an audience while cultivating a reputation for thoughtful, intelligent analyses of media and video games. It is my job to ensure that the site has regular content and I am constantly working with a team of writers to help find the best version of every article.

Thankfully, that approach has proven successful over the course of the past year. Articles that I have written or edited have generated the highest traffic figures in the history of the site and our staff and profile have grown accordingly. We kicked off 2015 with the launch of The WhaleCast, the new gaming podcast that I host alongside Jon Remedios. So far the venture has been a success and I expect the site will continue to expand well into the future.

My (mostly) complete portfolio is (or will be) below, with articles appearing in reverse chronological order from the date of publication. These archives are mostly for my own benefit, but you can find a more select list of my best work over here.
